![]() Perhaps this is an opportunity to tell more stories outside of the main plot of Silksong. These sound a lot more fleshed out than in the original Hollow Knight, as Silksong actually allows you to keep track of all your side quests in a journal. ![]() Said to be “haunted by Silk and Song” according to developer Team Cherry themselves, Silksong’s basic plot puts Hornet right at the bottom of this new kingdom, and tasks her with ascending to the top of the kingdom and reaching a shining citadel to find out the truth behind her kidnapping.Īdditionally, there’s also going to be side quests for Hornet to take on. In this new game, Hornet finds herself kidnapped, and spirited away to a kingdom called Pharloom. Hollow Knight: Silksong actually switches out protagonists, replacing the Knight with Hornet for this new adventure. If you’ve played Hollow Knight, you’ll no doubt remember Hornet, who frequently got in the way of the player character, but ended up becoming their ally partway through. However, Hornet has a Silk metre, and healing three nodes of health immediately empties the bar. Instead of slowly refilling her health like the Knight did, Hornet can instantly heal three health nodes, and not only that, but she can also do this on the move. Healing also works differently in Silksong than in Hollow Knight. In fact, Team Cherry looks to have made the platforming distinctly more acrobatic with Hornet than with the Knight in the original game: the new protagonist looks like a gymnast compared to the Knight, deftly flipping over huge enemies with ease. It’s clear then that Hollow Knight’s blend of platforming and 2D combat is returning for Silksong. Despite it being a pure introduction to the sequel, we actually did get to see plenty of clips of protagonist Hornet jumping into action, as she bounds and leaps over enemies with finesse. And now that's been solidified and built upon by the more recent trailer, with everything looking incredibly fluid. although surely another Nintendo Direct is happening sometime this month. As for Hollow Knight: Silksong's gameplay, initially the only footage we had to go off was from the debut trailer. Until then, I'm going to do my best to stop expecting to see Silksong again anytime soon. I want to be surprised again and again, just like I was in the first game, as I kept stumbling into new areas.Īs with Elden Ring's 2021 Summer Game Fest appearance, I think Silksong will be worth the wait when it does re-emerge. I want Silksong to preserve the same mystery that I felt in Hollow Knight: I really don't want to know how big the world will be or what kind of enemies I'll run into. When Silksong does come out, I expect it'll make a bigger splash than a Metroid sequel that was 20 years in the making.īut when will that be? Agonizing as the wait is, I'm okay with Team Cherry working away without the distractions of maintaining a development blog or tweeting out art or screenshots every few weeks. Metroid Dread kicked up a lot of comparisons, too, and I don't think it's too controversial to say that Hollow Knight's combat, art and level design are a cut above. ![]() I see a discussion thread from someone new playing it for the first time, and the takeaway is usually: I heard Hollow Knight was good, but I didn't think it would be this good. Since 2019, while Team Cherry has been hard at work on a sequel, Hollow Knight's prestige has only continued to grow. We're closing in on the same amount of time Elden Ring spent in silence. Since then, nothing-a year and a half without a scrap of new information. Then it was quiet for a year, until our sister publication Edge magazine ran a cover feature on Silksong in December 2020. It's understandable: Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced in February 2019 and shown a couple times that year. ![]() That sure feels like the Elden Ring subreddit after yet another disappointment, though there aren't quite as many poor souls posting in pain. ![]()
